HTML5 Game

A web-based game built with modern web standards (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) that runs directly in any browser without plugins.

Definition

An HTML5 game is a video game built using web technologies — HTML, CSS, JavaScript, plus APIs like Canvas, WebGL, and Web Audio. It runs natively in modern browsers on any device, without Flash, Java applets, or app store installs.

Why HTML5 replaced Flash

When Adobe Flash was discontinued in 2020, HTML5 became the undisputed standard for browser gaming because it offers:

  • Cross-device: works on desktop, tablet, and mobile
  • No plugins: instant-play, no installs
  • Better performance: hardware-accelerated via WebGL
  • Security: sandboxed by the browser

Game types

Every genre you can think of exists as HTML5: puzzles, racing, action, strategy, and more. All games on PlayFunly are HTML5.
